mir's comeback trail leads to lesnar

come feb. 2, the world will know (at least those who follow the ufc) if the old frank mir is back. mir is set to battle with the hulking brock lesnar. this fight is big, but it would have been huge if a motorcycle accident involving someone who looks like, talks like, and fights like frank mir did not happen.

back in 2004, the maine-iac tim sylvia reigns supreme in the heavyweight division but when he faced mir for the championship, mir broke his arm, literally. it took sylvia seven months to recuperate from that. meanwhile, after that win, mir was considered by many to be the future of the heavyweight division.

then, the motorcycle accident happened. it took mir almost two years to get back into shape to compete in mma. his first fight after the accident was a loss; the second, a win; the third a ko loss to brandon vera; then he lost to renato "babalu" sobral last year. after that, he took on hardonk and won by submission (kimura). that win had people thinking whether the old rank mir is back.

this upcoming fight is very important to mir as he surely wants to regain his title. but he has to get past the "next big thing".

interestingly, sylvia will also be fighting come feb. 2.

the cars are not the the only sleek things in formula 1. there are kick-ass helmets too. anyone familiar with f1 knows that each driver has his own helmet. so, i did a bit of snooping around to bring you these f1 helmets. giancarlo fischella will be suiting up again for force india this season and he'll be wearing this helmet for the 2009 season. not too shabby but not too great either. adrian sutil, fisichella's force india teammate will be rocking this helmet this year. better than fisichella's in my opinion. back with renault for the second year after his one-year stint with mclaren-mercedes, fernando alonso has this for this year. looks good but i think i will go with sutil's still. heikki kovalainen would be looking to improve his last year's performance this season. hopefully, the helmet will not be the only thing he's changed for the better. it's tough but my mclaren bias means i'm picking this helmet over sutil's. jarno trulli, still w

kevin durant is rookie of the year

last year's draft saw the portland trailblazers picking up greg oden with their first pick. then, seattle went with kevin durant and durant would go on to become this season's rookie of the year (uhm, rookie of what year exactly? shouldn't it be called the rookie of the season or something? hehehe). the university of texas standout, a 6'9" swingman with a wingspan of almost 7'5" led all rookies in scoring with 20.3 per contest. i must admit that i was more interested in oden as i was wondering how he (oden) will be able to match up with the league's premier big men. but durant showed that at his young age, he can ball with the best in the nba. i also admire the kid's professionalism, his dedication to his craft. in the first months of this season, he kept shooting threes which really hurt his shooting percentage. but he soon learned that it would be easier to make shots if he throw them up closer to the rim. by the end of the regular seaso

That lets you know how great LBJ is. “Keep it moving” — Eddie A Johnson (@Jumpshot8) December 10, 2021 it's amazing how eddie johnson can find people who knows what they are talking about actually rip on lebron. i mean, most of the blame on the lakers' lack of early season success has been piled on westbrook early on and has shifted to tony davis recently.  lebron is a physical specimen and although i'm not his biggest fan, i understand how great he is as a player and i can honestly say that he has not gotten any sort of blame for the lakers' season so far. so i'm not sure where eddie is coming from here. also, timmy won a chip as a major contributor at 36...against a stacked lebron team at that.
